After doing a lot of reading on macro flash and diffusion materials, I think I’ve finally hit on a good configuration. I’ve got a straight flash arm attached to the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera. On the opposite end of the arm, I’ve got a ballhead. On the ballhead, I’ve got a […]
We finally didn’t have rain, snow or arctic winds to rival McMurdo Sound, so I finally took the 500mm Opteka mirror lens (with 2x TC!) outside for a few shots. It’s about what I expected. Field of view and depth of field are pretty small, but it’s no worse than I remember my old Soligor […]
I got a new Opteka 500mm F6.3 mirror lens on Wednesday. I bought it to replace a 500mm Soligor mirror that I’d bought in Korea in 1981. I used the Soligor to take pictures of North Korean guardposts and North Korean activity in the DMZ for classes I conducted as part of the 2nd Infantry […]

A few macro shots with the 100mm Tokina.
Here are a couple of test images of a penny shot using an old Minolta manual 50mm film lens reversed on a Tokina 100mm macro. Old film lenses are great for this, as well as use as the only lens on a reverse ring, since they have manual aperture and don’t require “tricks” to set […]
I finally decided that my old Canon Digital Rebel Xt had soldiered on for long enough. I got a good deal on a Digital Rebel T4i from B&H Photo. Here are a few images:
Here are a few shots from a car show that’s held on Madison Ave. in Lakewood, Ohio.
I haven’t had much time to start putting content back since the last rebuild. Here are a few casual macro shots I did while watching YouTube macro how-tos.
